The tour starts in the milking facility to show how the cows are milked, how the milk is handled before it leaves the farm to be processed, food safety, and how milk is tested and cooled. Guests get to see the calves as the tour describes the life cycle of a dairy cow from birth to milking. Participants will then visit the main cow barn, where guests see how the cows live and are fed.
The tour then goes to the Randleigh Dairy Heritage Museum, an interactive museum where visitors discover how a typical NC dairy operates. Learn how milk is used to make products like the delicious Howling Cow ice cream. The tour ends with a cup of Howling Cow.
For those interested, we'll meet for lunch at 11:45 am at the NC Farmer's Market Restaurant. Please respond to Pat Butler at firstname.lastname@example.org to indicate if you are interested in the tour or also lunch.
