Gerrymandering is the practice of manipulating district boundaries to the advantage of a political party when redrawing voting district maps. North Carolina is one of the most gerrymandered states in the nation. This League of Women Voters panel will discuss how politicians manipulate voting maps in North Carolina and options for pursuing redistricting reform.
Our guest speakers are all members of the LWV-Wake Redistricting Committee including Dianna Wynn, Mike Jennings, Laurel Voelker, Sheila Denn, and Aylett Colston. They have been quoted in numerous media publications and broadcasts on the issue of gerrymandering, presented testimony before the redistricting committees in the legislature, met with legislators about redistricting reform, and spoken to other groups of concerned citizens in the community.
