Join Us Making Democracy Work
The League will begin a series of Hot Topic meetings, to be held on the second Wednesday of the winter months, i.e. January 11, February 8th and March 14th. These meetings will be general discussion meetings on topics that either generate a great degree of interest over time or burst suddenly into the national conversation.
The January 11th meeting will be held from 1:30 p.m to 3: 30 p.m at the League office, 3509 Haworth Drive, Suite 404, Raleigh 27609. If you need directions, you may always call the office at 783-5995. The January Hot Topic will be immigration which continues to confound our Congress with workable compromises. A recent report by an advocacy group, “Shattered Families” estimates that over 5000 children have been placed in foster care due to the deportation of one or both parents.
The February topic will be social media and again the meeting will be on the second Wednesday, February 8th, between 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm. We will discuss the way in which the social media has literally changed social movements as well as discuss some of the ways we members can engage in this new technology.
The topic for March is still being considered, but your comments and suggestions are welcome. Please write to the League at lwvwake@bellsouth.net.
These meetings will be informal but, we hope, focused and are of course, open to all league members. Guests are always welcome.
